La Boîte à Joujoux
"La Boîte à joujoux" is a ballet for children in one act and four scenes, composed by Claude Debussy (1913) . In a toy shop, inside a box, there are several puppets. When the light comes on, the Doll comes out, begins to dance and is followed by all the other toys. In the midst of dancing, the Soldier falls in love with the Doll, but she has already set her sights on Pulcinella, the frivolous and unreliable. The story moves to a battle field where the small army of the Soldier challenged that of his rival Pulcinella. After the fight, the Soldier falls injured, the Doll runs to his rescue and heals him while Pulcinella goes away mocking the opponent. Once healed, the Soldier can finally marry the Doll and together they decide to buy a farm to live on. After many years, the couple is happy with their children while the treacherous Pulcinella is relegated to the duty of country guard. The scene ends happily with a lively polka after which the lights go out and the toy box closes with all the protagonists inside.
