L'Amour des Trois Oranges
"The Love for Three Oranges" is an opera, of one prologue and three actes, written in 1919 by Sergei Prokofiev. The libretto is based on the play “L’amore delle tre melarance” by Carlo Gozzi. The absurd story is in the Commedia dell’Arte tradition, and concerns a young prince, cursed by a wicked witch and forced to travel into remote land in search of three oranges, each one of them which contains a princess. The following sketches are for the costume design of the main characters of the opera. The typology of each costume is either ironic, buffoonish, humorous, grotesque, moderne or classical, with an undefined era or style.
